Student Life

The Department is home to one of the biggest concentrations of Classicists and Ancient Historians in the UK, most of them studying on one of our undergraduate degree programmes or as postgraduate students. This means that there’s always a lot going on, not just in lecture rooms and classes but also in the classical community in, and beyond, the Department.

University student
I was involved in student media at Durham - co-hosting a show on 'Purple Radio' and being TV Editor of the university's online student magazine 'The Bubble', becoming part of its leadership team in my final year. The experience gained from these roles helped me to pursue a Master's degree in Broadcast Journalism following my undergraduate studies at Durham. My Classics degree also provided me with transferrable skills in critical thinking and research which I've been able to apply in my work as a journalist.
